Maudie went to stay with her aunt in Sydney as it was her summer vacations. She had a few friends there named Anne, Sophia, Fred, and Taylor. She loved playing with them and was really looking forward to spending a fun summer with them.
One day, while Maudie was playing 'catch' with her friends, while they were playing Anne tripped and fell! Fred helped her up. "Are you okay Anne?", he asked. "Yes", she replied. However, they noticed that surface she fell on wasn’t soil or mud! It was hard felt like wood. "Let's dig it up", said Sophia since they found it rather unusual.
So, they bought some shovels from the shop nearby and started digging. To their surprise it was a Treasure Chest! The key to it was already in the keyhole. They opened it and found necklaces, crowns, tiaras studded with pearls, rubies, emeralds, and diamonds. They also found many gold coins. At the bottom of the chest was a note, a compass, and a map. The writing was faded, and they could barely read it. Taylor fetched a magnifying glass so that they could read it.
They held the magnifying glass close the note the writing was finally visible and the note said that this treasure belonged to a notorious pirate who terrorized merchant’s ships in the Tasman Sea and went by the title of the Tasmanian Devil.
The captain had amnesia, so he had forgotten where he had hidden the treasure. The map had directions to a second treasure. They were all overly excited to look for it.
Suddenly, Fred noticed that Taylor was missing. Just as they were going to call her name, she came running towards them. "Friends, won't we be hungry on the trip?" she said. "I have packed some delicious chips, cupcakes and fries. Let's go now!" she exclaimed.
When her friends saw the map, they were confused. All that was written was north, south, east, and west. "What does this mean?" asked Anne. "Oh, I remember!" Maudie shouted. "We just studied this in Social studies. It's all in the compass!" After some time wandering out onto the edge of the forest, they saw a bright shiny light. It was the second treasure, but it was being guarded by a seven headed cobra.
They started thinking of ways to defeat the cobra. They figured that they could only defeat it by being kind to it! So, they fed it 10 chips, 5 fries and 2 cupcakes. It ate it all but still did not let them take the treasure.
Suddenly they heard a scream. For it was Fred! He took his shovel and smashed the cobra's fourth head. It became unconscious for a while. So instead of waiting they opened the chest and found five legendary swords inside it. When they lifted the swords, they all gained magical powers! Anne and Sophia started teleporting, Fred and Taylor started flying. Maudie got X-ray vision! This is better than a dream, Maudie thought to herself.
Just then, Maudie heard her friends scream, "Maudie! Eat your breakfast fast, let’s play catch!" She said “Coming”. Perhaps her dream would come true. I think so, don’t you?
